Hackers Bring Tetris and 3D Graphing to Casio Prizm

I must admit that I’m not that good at keep up to date with the active community of graphing calculators hackers. I was interested to learn via an email update from the Cemetech staff that they have made significant inroads in their efforts to pimp out the Casio Prizm over the last couple of months. As Texas Instruments has continues to make the TI-Nspire line their premiere line of calculators, the hacker community has started to gain interest in the Casio Prizm, calculator that seems to generally be seen as more friendly to programming efforts.

You Gotta’ Start Them Young

Just for fun, I thought I’d post this picture of my daughter’s early love affair with the TI-Nspire CX. It’s actually from the beginning of the school year and got quite a rise out of my friends when I posted it on Facebook. I don’t know why I never got around to posting it here. Anyway, in the months since, she has proven to be a quick study, rapidly moving through Pre-Calculus and on to AB Calculus.

Apple and Texas Instruments to Form Alliance

Update: Much to my surprise, this April Fools joke came true just a year after I wrote this with the release of the TI-Nspire iPad app. I’m getting word from a source at Texas Instruments that within the next 24 to 48 hours we can expect to hear an official announcement of a blockbuster alliance being formed with Texas Instruments and Apple. Both companies are going to get significant penetration into an area of the market they previously didn’t have access to.

Happy Birthday, TI-Nspire CX

The TI-Nspire CX is an amazing but still underused tool for math educators. If you didn’t realize it, this past Saturday marked the one year anniversary of the public announcement of the TI-Nspire CX, Texas Instruments’ full color graphing calculator. For those of you just learning about it, you might enjoy reading my TI-Nspire CX review, or even the story where I broke the announcement of the TI-Nspire CX right here on Tech Powered Math.

Graphing Calculators in Mathematics Competitions

As it is once again math competition season in my part of the world, I thought it would be nice to do a post on graphing calculators and mathematics competitions. While I realize this post may only appeal to a small segments of my readers, it is something I’m passionate about, and it may be helpful for new math team coaches out there. I do feel as though I can speak from a position of some authority on this subject.

Top 25 Free Math Resources

For the last few weeks, I’ve been scouring the web with Google, listening to reader suggestions, and searching through others’ lists of resources, trying to find the top free math resources online. I was not surprised to learn that there are a ton of free math resources out there. Sorting through them has been no small task, and while I’d love to pretend this list is all-inclusive, I’d be a liar if I tried to make that claim for a number of reasons.

Algebrator Review

Click here to get the best price on Algebrator by Softmath. The last few days I’ve been playing around with Softmath’s product for helping students learn algebra: Algebrator. There seems to be a lot of curiosity about this product, so I wanted to do an Algebrator review to let my readers know what the product about. As of the writing of this review, it costs $58.99, a reasonable cost for software of this type, but enough that you’ll probably want to know a little more about the software before investing in it.

Top 10 Mathematical Technologies of All Time

I’ve been thinking about the technologies that pushed the way we use and learn mathematics forward the most over the history of man. Here are my picks for the top 10 in the order they were invented. I’m not a historian, so take it for what it’s worth, and I’ll warn you that I almost entirely relied on Wikipedia for historical information. In other words, this is not a research paper.
