Nexus 5 Unboxing Video

UPDATE: I’ve posted my Nexus 5 review for MVNO’s. Here’s my unboxing video of the new Nexus 5 smartphone from Google. I was lucky enough to get my order in before it was back ordered for weeks, so it arrived earlier this week. I do plan to do a review once I’ve had a little more time to play around with the Nexus 5.

UPDATE: The contest is over. The winners are Carol of College Station, Texas, Melissa of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Donna of Evansville, Indiana. Thanks to everyone who participated! About a month ago, I did a review of Guerrilla Graphing Calculator Accessories. If you’re looking for the short version of that review, I think they’re going to be a hit this school this year. They fit Texas Instruments calculators perfectly, and they offer many cool, stylish designs.

Why High School Students Should Learn Computer Programming

Playing games on my old gaming systems and the new ones on my smart-phone has entertained me for a long period of time, but I soon ask myself, “How did they make this?” You see an amazing app on the App Store and tell yourself that this app had great marketing, user-experience, and a beautiful design, but how did it all come to be? The underlying factor that is always neglected by the user is the programming behind it.

Top 10 Math Movies of All Time

I’ve been thinking about putting together a list of the best math movies of all time for a while now. Such a list is sure to create some controversy, so I decided it was important to be as objective as possible. As a result, I created a couple of rules before I got started. The first rule might cause the most controversy. The movie had to feature a mathematician as a major character or plot point.

In no particular order, here’s my breakdown of the top 10 mathematical scandals of all time. Steinmetz High School Crashes the U.S. Academic Decathlon Yeah, I know, it’s a high school competition.

Infographic: Six Ways Your Students Are Using Technology

Interesting infographic about how our students are using technology from Internet Innovation. Things sure have changed a lot since my first weekend at the University of Illinois back in 1995 when I discovered the internet for the first time on UI’s own Mosaic browser. I can tell you with almost absolute certainty that the 1 in 4 number about teens that own smartphones is higher in my own school district.

Interview with NASA Education Chief Leland Melvin

Back in March at the T3 conference in Philadelphia, I had a chance to interview Leland Melvin. Melvin is a former football player and former astronaut. Currently, he serves as the NASA Associate Administrator for Education, and he was the keynote speaker that opened up the T3 conference. Melvin was gracious enough to spend a few minutes answering questions for me after he delivered his keynote, speaking about space, NASA, the TI-Nspire, and why he is so passionate about education.

T3 Stream of Consciousness

In honor of one of my favorite sports bloggers, Robert of alioneye.com, I’m doing a “stream of conciousness” post to wrap up my thoughts on last weekend’s T3 conference. There’s no method or plan to this. I’ve just had a lot of random thoughts about my time in Philadelphia, none of which would make a satisfying post in and of itself. Here goes nothing. –As tough as Philadelphia sports fans can be, I was expecting the locals in Philly to be a little rough around the edges.
