In honor of the arrival of my iPad 2, Labor Day will mark the start of iPad App week here at Tech Powered Math. I’ll be reviewing a different math/education app each day for the week of September 5, so be sure to check in each day. If you haven’t subscribed yet, you can do so through the Facebook, Twitter, or RSS icons at the top of the screen. I’m going to try to get a mix of different levels from elementary school through high school, so I hope there will be something for everyone.
While the focus at Tech Powered Math has always been on graphing calculators, I’m interested in a variety of technologies and gadgets. To this point, I have done the occasional iOS or Android story, but I plan to do more during the 2011-12 school year. The number of national and world news about tablets in education is growing every month. I’ve also heard from plenty of readers who have asked me for more on this topic, so I hope you enjoy the increased app and tablet coverage.
It’s unlikely that tablets will eclipse graphing calculators in the high school math classroom in next few years due to standardized testing restrictions of the SAT, ACT, and AP tests. But if tablets continue to gain momentum the way they are starting to right now, there will come a day when that will have to change. The iPad is only the beginning.
