Mathtoons Logarithms Lite is one of the most unusual yet catchy math education apps I’ve ever come across. It is a tutorial on how to go between the exponential and logarithmic forms of an equation. Users are instructed by cartoon characters that reminded me a bit of the Phineas and Ferb animation style. The animation is high quality, and so are the voice actors. I also like that the app provides a mnemonic device to help remember how to go between the two forms of the equation. I have found students really struggle with that.
I do wish the app had been a bit longer. Students only get to go through one example of each format before getting a recap of the lesson. When I tried to start over to try another example, the app would allow it. I’m not sure if it was designed that way or if it froze, but I tried it a couple of times and that happened each time.
Nonetheless, this is a pretty fun app if all you need is a 5 minute lesson on how to go between exponential and logarithmic form, and it’s free, so you have nothing to lose by taking it for a spin.
