TI-Nspire Won’t Turn On? Performing Surgery

Math team season is upon us. I had an unusually large number of kids try out, and even after cuts, we had a record number of kids on the team, 32. When the start of the season nears, one of my preseason jobs is to get the team TI-Nspire CAS handhelds out of the closet, both to update to the latest OS, and to make sure they all still boot up.

TI-Nspire Tutorials Volume 2: Using the CAS Like a Champion

I am pleased to announce the official release of my second TI-Nspire Tutorials book, TI-Nspire Tutorials Volume 2: Using the CAS Like a Champion. As the title suggests, volume 2 is focused on CAS features. I’m excited to offer it to anyone who wants to learn more about any version of the TI-Nspire CAS, whether you have the TI-Nspire CAS in CX, Touchpad, or Clickpad (although button sequences will differ if you have the original Clickpad).

TI-Nspire Tutorials Volume 1 Released

Click here to get TI-Nspire Tutorials Volume 1 on Amazon, FREE until July 7. As I promised back in June, my first eBook has hit the market. The title is a mouthful: TI-Nspire ™ Tutorials: The TI-Nspire for Beginners, Getting Started with the TI-Nspire. The TI-Nspire Tutorials book is currently available exclusively on the Kindle market. I’m sure at some point I’ll get questions about iBooks, and while I’m looking into that, I wanted to start with the Kindle for a couple of reasons.

How to Upgrade to TI-nspire OS 3.2

I’m back from my Honduras trip, and hard at work looking at TI-Nspire OS 3.2. My first eBook on the TI-Nspire is nearing completion, and I have completely updated it to be consistent with 3.2, from button press sequence to screen captures. I have heard from some of you that you are having trouble updating to OS 3.2. I have had a video on YouTube for the last couple of years on how to update the Nspire OS, but the process has changed a little bit over that time.

Texas Instruments Announces TI-Nspire OS 3.2 Release Timeline

It’s only a minor deviation from the plan that Texas Instruments reps originally talked about at the T3 Conference back in March, but all of you TI-Nspire fans will have to wait just a bit longer for the release of TI-Nspire OS 3.2. The original discussions had indicated a mid to late May release of the operating system that will bring conic sections and “x=” graphing to the Nspire. On Saturday, TI released an email announcing that the official timeline is now a June release.

How to Replace a TI-Nspire CX Battery

Click here to get a new TI-Nspire rechargeable battery on Amazon. I’ve put together simple video tutorial on how to change the rechargeable battery on the TI-Nspire CX (or CX CAS). You won’t need anything but a set of mini screwdrivers and a new battery. As I say in the video, this is a fairly simple procedure which I’ve done many times without any problems. However, any time you take the calculator apart, there is a chance something could go wrong, so proceed at your own risk.

TI-Nspire: No Repairs Needed

Is your TI-Nspire beyond repair? Click here to check prices on a new or used TI-Nspire on Ebay. A former student of mine missed school last Friday and came back with a pretty crazy picture. Apparently, she was in a pretty horrific car accident where her car flipped twice. As you can see in the picture, it wasn’t a pretty picture. Fortunately, she walked away as she had no major injuries, and she only missed a day of school.

Lua Scripting Demo on TI-Nspire 3.2

As I mentioned in my previous post, TI-Nspire 3.2 has Lua scripting support. While I’m no programming guru (pretty much limited to GW-Basic and Fortran), I know there are a lot of people who will be excited about the opportunity to program with Lua for the Nspire. There are also a lot of people like myself who will be interested in using what others develop. Video demo follows. The first 10 seconds or so are pretty shaky (sorry), but if you hang in there, it gets better fast.

TI-Nspire OS 3.2 Demo

I’m going to have stories continuing to trickle out of my time at T3 in Chicago for a while. Along with the announcement of Mayim Bialik as their new spokesperson, the folks at TI had another big announcement, TI-Nspire OS 3.2 is on the way. There are three very noteworthy improvements that come with OS 3.2. First, graphing with conic sections is finally available. This is one of the few remaining things that was fairly simple to do on the TI-84 (via an app) but impossible on the TI-Nspire.

Happy Birthday, TI-Nspire CX

The TI-Nspire CX is an amazing but still underused tool for math educators. If you didn’t realize it, this past Saturday marked the one year anniversary of the public announcement of the TI-Nspire CX, Texas Instruments’ full color graphing calculator. For those of you just learning about it, you might enjoy reading my TI-Nspire CX review, or even the story where I broke the announcement of the TI-Nspire CX right here on Tech Powered Math.
